Many of us are constantly trying to improve ourselves. Sometimes we try to make drastic changes all in one go in order to be the person who we want to be. That’s not the way to go. Forcing yourself to change in the hopes of making an actual change doesn’t really work out. Improving oneself takes time, commitment, patience, and effort. However, you can start this change with an idea that was proposed to me a couple of weeks ago.
I was talking to a friend about self-improvement and reaching our goals when he mentioned that there’s this holiday that he wants to create. It’s not the type of holiday where you get the day off or anything like that. You still go to work/school, and you go about your day as if it were normal. However, there are two things that you do during the said day: you do a selfless thing for someone else, and you try to be the best version of yourself.
The selfless act goes beyond interacting with someone. You don’t necessarily have to give that person a gift, but just help them out if you see that they’re struggling, or just help them for the sake of helping. Make someone’s life easier by doing a random act of kindness.
Improving yourself, now this one is a tough one. We always want to be the best version of ourselves, but often we don’t know where to begin. Well, this day is perfect for that. The purpose of this activity is not to push yourself to excel at everything; it’s to take a quality or two that you wish to improve and act on it. For example, if you procrastinate, and you don’t want to do that anymore, you dedicate that entire day to getting things done beforehand.
This idea is not meant to be popularized or anything of the sort. It’s meant to help people be a little better than they were yesterday. The fun thing about this is that you can make this holiday any day that you want it to be; since there isn’t a set date for it. If you want to change, you can achieve it. Just don’t go rushing the process, and don’t push yourself.
