Apple’s new Gamechanger

Apple’s “Unleashed” event was a virtual media event held on Monday, October 18, 2021, where the company unveiled redesigned MacBook Pro models, third-generation AirPods, and new colors for the HomePod mini. The other products were also great, but I think we can all agree that the main event was the new macbooks. It was surprising that Apple came up with a completely new design for its product. There were big changes on the new Macbook in terms of both hardware and software.

Let’s look at physical changes. Apple (finally!) got rid of their controversial touchbar. Introduced years before, the piece of tech malfunctioned frequently and left many people frustrated. Apple must have heard its consumers wanting the “real” keyboards back, so this year, Apple ditched the touch bar and replaced it with physical keyboards. The display also changed as well. The bezels got really thinner from both the sides and the top. The display is made with mini-LEDs and supports 120hz. At the top, Apple put a notch for the camera system (which looks a lot like the notch from iPhones). Lastly, the ports are back! The last generation of macbooks supported only usb C types, which Apple called, “the most versatile port that is compatible with everything.” Now, they gave us three usb C types, an HDMI port, made charging available with magsafe, and gave us an SD card.

On the inside, Apple’s new chips take action. The M1 Pro and M1 Max chips are in a league of their own. They are arguably the most power efficient chips in the market and could do work at a mindblowing speed. They both have a 10 core CPU and up to 32 core GPU when it comes to the M1 max. Both have 16 core neural engines that are able to perform up to 11 trillion operations per second. Due to the chips’ remarkable power efficiency, the laptops could now last up to 21 hours from a single charge. It is amazing how Apple has succeeded in widening the gap between itself and its competitors. Let’s see how Intel and its allies react to this.
