Banksy has been around for some time now, and many different events have been created by his works. Yet, it is a mystery who he truly is. Banksy has had various different hidden art pieces throughout cities, but his most popular piece is the “Girl with Balloon”. This piece was first started in 2002 and is located in London. This piece can be seen on various different walls and structures. It depicted a young girl with her hand extended toward a red heart-shaped balloon carried away by the wind.
This piece was so popular that the artist, Banksy, didn’t want it to be sold to a collector during an auction. In order to make this possible, Banksy decided to make “a special frame” for the piece. Something about the frame was out of the ordinary yet no one knew it. Once the piece was signed up for auction, Banksy was ready. The starting bid began at $1 million and went all the way up to $1.4 million, and just as it was going to be sold, Banksy decided to activate the frame.
Suddenly, the frame began to make a horrific noise and the painting inside began to move. It moved downwards, and while this was happening, everyone began to notice that something was coming out of the bottom of the frame. The painting was being shredded.
But, it suddenly malfunctioned, leaving the painting half way inside the frame and half outside, shredded. Everyone was surprised, yet, people began to start bidding more. This small malfunction had made the painting have more value in the eyes of the collectors and the investors. Just this small mistake inside and outside the frame made the final bid selling price double all the way to over $2 million dollars.
Maybe someday, a mistake of ours will make such a huge impact and will make the certain things we made a mistake to be valued for way more.
