Barca and the Super Cup Final

Sunday, January 17th; a historic day for Athletic Bilbao who won their third Spanish Super Cup Final. The match was between the defending champions Barcelona and Athletic Bilbao. When you think of this game you instantly believe that Barcelona was going to destroy the other team, but that wasn’t the situation here. Throughout the match there were several goal opportunities, the possession was definitely with Barcelona, but they weren’t able to score goals. Barca was winning 2-1 and in the last minute of the game, Villalibre was able to score a goal and send his team to extra time. Athletic Bilbao started strong and scored a goal in the first three minutes of overtime.

Barcelona had to do something about it and fast! They started to attack and attack, over and over again. They had several chances to score a goal but the goalie and the players kept on preventing it. Athletic Bilbao players started to waste time and foul the opposing team players. It was incredible how Barcelona kept attacking and couldn’t manage to score one goal. The frustration in the player’s face was clear to everyone watching the game, especially Messi. In one of the last plays of the game, Messi was so frustrated with an opposing player that he literally hit him in the face which led to him being thrown out of the game with a red card. Barcelona players had few minutes left, and with their captain out of the game, they weren’t able to score that one goal needed for penalties. Athletic Bilbao were the Spanish Super Cup champions!
