Over 18 billion cigarettes are smoked a day all over the world. It’s insane to think how so many people around the world could smoke that amount of cigarettes in just the span of one day. How can people do so much damage to their body, and care so little about it? Smoking cigarettes shouldn’t be normalized just because of how common it is. I don’t believe risking your health for the rest of your life is worth smoking a tiny piece of paper, do you?
Most smokers in today’s world start smoking by the age of 18. In many countries, 18 years old are still underage, but teenagers still do this, and the reason they do this is that they’re young and dumb. Peer pressure plays a huge role in the lives of smoke addicts. Some people feel the need to do what their friends say just to fit in or impress them, even if it means you’re doing something you really don’t want to, like smoking. Even if deep down you know starting to smoke can open up doors to a dangerous lifestyle, you’ll still do it to not be left out. Never do anything you don’t really want to do just because someone else tells you to do it. All your actions are your own choices, and you get to decide what’s best for you.
Your health is put at risk the second you start smoking. Smoking does no good for you, it just contaminates your lungs and makes them deteriorate over time. Some of the diseases you could get from smoking are cancer, lung disease, heart disease, diabetes, and COPD. Some of these diseases are even deadly, and there’s a high risk you might not get cured of them. More than 480,000 people die from smoking every year. It’s funny to think how a silly cigarette can cause so much damage to a human’s body. Before smoking, ask yourself if risking your life is worth inhaling toxic smoke.
Over time, people who smoke start to pay the consequences of having smoked their whole lives. All of the sudden trying to run a mile costs a whole lot more than it used to. Even talking feels different and your voice starts sounding raspy. Activities that you used to do normally suddenly start getting harder. Your life starts changing for the worse as time goes on, and there’s nothing you can do about it since the damage is already there. All those years of beating your lungs up just for the satisfaction of smoking turn into regret and fear.
After looking at how much smoking can damage you, it’s easy to say it’s a life sentence that goes through slowly. People have become careless about the fact that cigarettes are killing them. Why do humans feel the need to burn themselves down just to feel the satisfaction of smoke? Shining light on this topic is crucial, we can’t afford any more lives lost to smoking. Although the temptation to smoke can be very high sometimes, there’s always a way to avoid it.
