Freshies vs. Sophomores

The StuCo Soccer tournament continues and the Cougar spirit keeps building up among the students. From my own experience, I could feel how the spirit of unity is increasing among the Sophomores. Last week’s game was Freshies vs. Sophomores. Not an easy match for either of the teams, but an interesting match for sure. The game started with a quick response from the Freshies, who scored the first goal when they saw the opportunity after a Sophomores defense fault. Mohhamad Eslami scored the first goal of the match in the first five minutes of the game. I, as a sophomore, can say that when Mo scored the first goal, we felt nervous. The match continued and Sophomores were not able to score. Many opportunities, but no goals. Freshies had a solid defense that made the job hard for the Sophomores. In the first half Sophomores tied the game and then end the half a little bit more relaxed.
Sophomores started the second half with a cold mind. Changes were made and tactics were planned. In the second half, the Sophomores took advantage and scored one goal. The Freshies immediately responded and scored another goal. It was being an intense and exciting game. The match was tied 2-2. The Sophomores could not score, they could not find the way. It wasn’t until the middle of the second half that the Sophomores found the way to score through the unbreakable defense of the Freshies. The Sophomores started doing the “tiki-taka”, that means that they started passing the ball more frequently and started shooting more. The Sophomores scored four more goals. The Freshies were not standing still on the field meanwhile, they were attacking, but the solid Sophomores defense countered the sharp Freshies attack. This exciting match ended 6-2 in favor of the Sophomores, who now are on top of the table with 6 points and a match remaining. Freshies have 3 points and also have one match remaining.
