My Love/Hate Relationship with FC Barcelona

It is no secret that FC Barcelona is facing the worst couple of years in the club’s history.  The decline started after Bartomeu (former Barca president) and his team of monkeys sold Neymar Jr. to PSG and broke a record for the highest transfer fee paid by a club (€222million). What’s even crazier than this event is what FCB did with all this money, we bought two “world-class” players who had an amazing run at their former clubs but failed to do so in Barcelona. One of these players is Antoine Griezmann, he was acquired in July of 2019 for €120million, he turned out to be a total flop. Apparently he lost all his confidence when he joined FCB and forgot how to shoot the ball. The second player bought is Philippe Coutinho who was bought from Liverpool FC for €160million in January of 2018. This man played so bad for Barca that even though his transfer fee was the second-highest in history, the club had to loan him out for a season because they couldn’t find a place for him in the team. Bartomeu then had the guts to basically give away Luis Suarez to one of Barca’s greatest rivals, Atlético de Madrid, at the beginning of this season. Suarez has more goals (9) than Griezmann and Coutinho combined this season (7), it’s both heartbreaking and infuriating to hear about some of the deals Bartomeu has made. I could go on and on about the horrible deals made in the last couple of years, but you get the idea.

Luckily for every culer, Bartomeu and his disastrous administration resigned towards the end of last year, one could say it was the happiest day in many years. Even though the club will not stabilize until the new elections take place, we can be sure of one thing, the club is full of young, talented players that will leave everything they have on the pitch. On defense, we have Ronald Araujo (21) and Oscar Mingueza (21) taking on world-class attackers and keeping the goalie secure. Even though they have just started playing for Barca’s first team, both of them have worked hard and earned their place. Another magnificent young defender is the new Barca player, Serginho Dest, (20) this dude looks like he’s dancing on the pitch while dribbling past everyone, simply amazing, top 5 right-backs in the game right now. On midfield, we have the mastermind, Frenkie de Jong, (23) alongside a brilliant kid, Riqui Puig (21). When these two are together on the pitch, their vision and passing ability make every problem irrelevant, watching them play is simply beautiful. Now these are the players I’m more excited to see in the future, our attackers. We have Ansu Fati, (18) Pedri, (18) and Francisco Trincao (21). What else can I say about these three other than the future is in safe hands, and probably these three will eventually win the golden boy award.

As I just said, the future is in safe hands, but what about now? What about our current situation? Well, there are days when I just want to travel to Barcelona and kiss all the players, but there are also days when I feel like not being a Barca fan anymore. At the end of the day, FCB reminds me of all the important women in my life, they are there to be loved, not understood.

Sebastian Bohrt

Hi, I’m Sebastian. I’m an FCB fan (currently debating if I should change team) and I love playing tennis. I know how to solve a Rubik’s Cube and Messi is the goat.
