Recap of the Grammys 2020

The 62nd Annual Grammy Awards were celebrated this past Sunday, January 26th at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. They were hosted by the singer and songwriter Alicia Keys. The night started with Lizzo performing her song “Cuz I Love You” and “Truth Hurts”. She set the tone for the night by starting the song by saying “Tonight is for Kobe” addressing the passing of the deceased Basketball Player Kobe Bryant, that died earlier that day. Lizzo wasn’t the only one to address Kobe, Alicia Keys also paid honor to him by singing with the group Boyz II Men in an improvised performance. Other artists that honored him were Aerosmith and LilNasX, both displayed Bryant’s jersey on stage while performing. One of the most remarkable performances was “Old Town Road” performed by its original singer LilNasx, Billy Ray Cyrus. The Korean group BTS, Diplo, Mason Ramsay (the yodeling Walmart kid) and Nas joined them in the stage. The big winner of the night was Billie Eilish winning these 6 awards: best album and Pop Vocal Album for “When We Fall Asleep Where Do We Go?”, best song, Pop Solo Performance and record for “Bad Guy” and Best New Artist. She explained that she didn’t want to win, so much that she was seen mouthing “please no” before winning the award for best album. In her acceptance speech, she declared that she thought Ariana Grande should have won the award. There were a lot of heartwarming family moments like Camila Cabello singing the song she wrote to her father while he was tearing up in the crowd. Ariana Grande also walked the red carpet accompanied by her parents and Tyler the Creator’s mom went in stage with him to accept his Grammy.
