Russia and Ukraine

I’m sure that at this point, everyone must know about the situation between Russia and Ukraine. This issue is one that has been going on for years, but lately, the circumstances have gotten even worse. The ruthlessness of the Russians has not only put in danger the people of Ukraine, but also many others around the world. With this conflict rising up again, many states have now been dragged into the dispute, causing an even bigger war than we imagine. It’s safe to say that many countries of the world are in great danger.

As I mentioned before, this disagreement started many years ago. Their history goes far back to 1991, when, with the collapse of the Soviet Union, Ukraine became an independent state. However, the personal conflicts between Russia and Ukraine, meaning the Russo-Ukrainian War, began in the year 2014. During this time, Russia invaded and subsequently annexed the Crimean peninsula from Ukraine. This is one of the many reasons why Ukraine and Russia have been having disagreements for many years. Finally, a war has started between them.

Russia invaded Ukraine in February of this year. They managed to do this by invading them across a broad front. Videos and pictures of the attacks that Russia has launched have been going viral lately. It is clear the Russians don’t seek peace, as they have resorted to using tanks, bombs, and many other forms of attack. Vladimir Putin, Russia’s president, has set up to 190,000 Russian troops at the borders of Ukraine. This is a sign of invasion, which leads us to believe Putin is thinking of a bigger picture, which is invading all of Ukraine. Unfortunately, Ukraine does not have the strength to fight back such a big army. In comparison to the military of the Russians, which is about 900,000 soldiers, Ukraine has only 200,000. This, unfortunately, leaves them vulnerable to the attack of the Russians.

Any good leader knows you can’t go into a war without some sort of protection or allies. Ukraine and Russia both have very different sets of allies that will support them through this battle. Ukraine’s most valuable allies are the USA, Canada, the UK, France, Germany, Italy, South Korea, Australia, Spain, and the Philippines. Russia’s most important allies are China, Greece, Indonesia, Serbia, North Korea, Egypt, Armenia, Belarus, and Iran. Of course, these are not the only allies involved in the war, but they are the most powerful, and the ones that are recognized the most.

People all around the world are terrified of what the next step for the Russians is. Many say that depending on what happens in the next weeks, a potential World War III could break out. Already, many people have lost their lives and are seeking shelter. The people of Ukraine are going into bunkers to protect themselves, and if possible, they are running away from their country. All the violence and attacks have been extremely gruesome. Once other states get involved, a real war will be provoked.
