The Importance of Music in Christian Worship

Whenever we think about Christianity, it’s usually about worshipping Jesus. However, they are still missing a key component: music. Just think about it: Christian worship is always accompanied by upbeat music as well as a lot of singing and dancing. Now you might wonder, why is music so important to Christians? Well, you have come to the right place since I myself am a Christian.
First of all, we can all agree that music is very important for many reasons. For example, it relieves their anxiety or helps with concentrating. Now, when it comes to Christiantiy, Christian music helps you connect with Jesus by associating music with the Bible and Church. Let me explain. Worship is one of the most important things in Christanity. Chrsitian music helps you connect with Jesus. Just like many people it helps you concentrate and gives you peace.
There are over 400 references in the Bible to singing and 50 direct commands to sing. For example in Psalm 47:6-7 it says “ Sing praises to God, sing praises; sing praises to our King, sing praises. For God is King of all earth; sing to him a psalm of praise.” For Christinas, it is very important to be obedient to God, and one way we do so is by singing songs of worship.
We can all also agree that music has emotional words and can affect everyone deeply. Well the same goes for Chrisitans, the lyrics of worship songs can affect everyone differently. Some people can associate the lyrics with something that has happened to them. To some people it inspires them to worship Jesus. Every song that Christians sing has a meaning.
Additionally, for Christians, worship through singing is their way to show faith. Christians worship to thank God for his love, as well as learning more about him. Many Christian songs are love songs between God and the individual. Here is an example of a song, it is called “Prince of peace” by Hillsong UNITED.
“My heart a storm, clouds raging deep within
The Prince of Peace came bursting through the wind
The violent sky held its breath
And in Your light I found rest”
“Tearing through the night
Riding on the storm
Staring down the fight
My eyes found Yours
Shining like the sun
Striding through my fear
The Prince of Peace met me there”
“You heard my prayer
Hope like the sunlight piercing through the dark
The Prince of Peace came and broke into my heart
The violent cross, the empty grave
And in Your light I found grace”
In this song you can clearly see a reference to the Bible through the title and lyrics. In Isaiah 9:6 it says ”Everlasting Father, Prince of peace.” As said previously Christian songs give you peace. The song basically talks about how you were broken, lost, and didn’t know what to do, but you meet the “Prince of Peace”(Jesus Christ) which gave you direction. It can also mean that you were praying and you were on the edge of losing hope but Jesus was always there listening to you. Everyone can interpret this song differently. There are many songs and anyone is free to listen to it. There are many groups that you can listen to like Hillsong UNITED or Elevation Worship. There are also many songs in Spanish from groups or individuals like the group Espiritu y Verdad.
