The Oscars this year were a wild ride for everyone. There hasn’t been such a controversial award show for many years, until now. With all the drama and the chaos, you certainly couldn’t have missed it, but in case you did, here’s a recap of what happened at the Oscars this year.
Many amazing movies were awarded Oscars this year. Some of the most famous movies that got an award were King Richard, Dune, Don’t Look Up, and many more. This means many important celebrities showed up this year, for example, Zendaya, Andrew Garfield, Leonardo Di Caprio, Timothee Chalamet, and many other amazing stars. There were also many other incredible musical performances in between the presentation of the awards, with artists like Meghan The Stallion and Billie Eilish performing their most popular songs. However, one celebrity certainly caused the most chaos out of all the night, and that was Will Smith.
As many of you know, Will Smith is one of the most famous actors in the world. His performances are always award-worthy, and he never fails to impress us. This was no exception with the movie King Richard, which is what Will Smith was nominated for this year. He and the whole crew of the movie showed up at the Oscars. Nobody expected what would happen next. Will Smith’s wife, Jada, has been diagnosed with alopecia a couple of years ago. This is something she talks about publicly but isn’t ashamed of. The drama started when one of the Oscar hosts, Chris Rock, made a joke about Jada being bald. This infuriated Will Smith to the point where he walked up to the stage and did something no one expected.
Will walked up to Chris Rock and slapped the life out of him. This left the public stunned and no one dared to speak that second. He later returned to his seat, and yelled “Keep my wife’s name out your f*****g mouth!”. This humiliated Chris Rock, and most importantly, it made Will Smith look like a complete fool. It only made it worse that later, Jada Smith came out with a statement and said she thought Will had overreacted with the slap and the yelling. Of course, Will Smith was only trying to protect his wife, but many people, including Jada herself, thought what he did was inappropriate.
Overall, the Oscars this year were one no one will ever forget. It has left many people talking about the issue, and the question of whether it was wrong for Will Smith to do that is still up for debate. Apart from all the drama, the award show was successful, and not many people left the Oscars empty-handed. I think it’s safe to say that the Oscars 2022 will go down in history as one of the most iconic Oscars ever.
