Virgil Abloh

Virgil Abloh was young yet, he had already been hired by Louis Vuitton to work on designing a new collection. How was he able to pull it off? Well, it’s simple, talent. Well, not just that, but we will go over him and his success in this article.

Virgil Abloh began his career taking an undergraduate in civil engineering. Rumors say that he skipped his final critiques during graduation in order to take a meeting with Kanye West’s manager. That is when he began to skyrocket. A few months later, Abloh decided to take a masters in architecture where he was inspired to get into the fashion business by a building. He started his fashion journey working as an intern for a company called Fendi who was located in Rome. That is when the CEO of Louis Vuitton began to keep his eye on the vision and designs that both Kanye West and Virgil Abloh were beginning to put out into the world.

In 2012, Abloh decided to start his first fashion business called Pyrex Vision which sold deadstock Ralph Lauren flannel shirts for $40 dollars, the only change was that he had Pyrex and the number 23, after Micheal Jordan, printed onto the flannels. They began to sell on the aftermarket at $550 a piece.

After some time, he decided to shut down Pyrex and reinvent it as a brand that is today known as Off White which is based in Milan. At Off-White, he combines ideas of streetwear, luxury, art, music, and travel, defining the brand simply as, “the gray area between black and white as the color Off-White.” He begins to gain traction and is invited to show his men and women’s collection at Paris fashion week.

After collaborating with many brands and taking out thousands of products with them, he is named the artistic director of Louis Vuitton’s menswear collections. At just over the age of 40, Virgil Abloh has been able to get to the place where people in the fashion industry dream. He not only is the artistic director for one of the largest luxury brands in the world, but he runs another ultra-popular streetwear and fashion brand on the side. There is no true secret, it is just a combination between talent, preparation, opportunity, and hard work because we’ve all heard it before, “hard work pays off”.
