What is going on in Australia?

Are you aware of what is going on in Australia right now? If you are not, Australia is on fire. There are about 120 fires going on and they are only getting worse. Fires are not only damaging the environment and being dangerous for human health, but they’re also burning down houses, forests. Moreover, these fires are unfortunately killing thousands of different animal species. It is estimated that about 1billion animals have died during these Australian fires. Can you imagine such devastation to the people and harm to our environment?

The Australian fires are only getting worse. They are so bad, as you can see in the satellite picture below, large parts of Australia are in orange, which represents the fire, and there is a cloudy aspect that represents all the smoke created by the fires. In this image, we can also see the large green areas around the fires that are in danger of being attacked and destroyed.

One of the biggest concerns is that the rainy season is months away and that dry weather conditions and the harsh winds will continue to expand the fires into the green areas. If that is the case, more human and animal lives are at risk of being killed.

A secondary effect of these fires, due to the smoke, can now be found in other parts of the world as well. The Australian heavy smoke conditions, due to the wind, have now reached New Zeland. The effect that the smoke is causing can be easily seen in the New Zeland Glaciers.

As you can see, the glaciers in the image above which were once white, are now brown due to the smoke created by the Australian fires that occurred thousands of miles away. There have also been some traces of smoke that have gone all the way to the southern tip of South America.

It’s evident that the wildfires in Australia have caused irreparable damages and thousands of deaths including animals and even some human lives. Do you think that with global warming wildfires will only get worse?
