Why Taking Breaks Is Important

Taking breaks can be very beneficial. Micro-breaks, lunchtime breaks, or longer breaks have shown to have a positive relationship with wellbeing and productivity. By taking regular breaks you can boost your performance. Taking breaks can reduce or prevent stress, and thus help to maintain performance throughout the day. Further, it increases levels of energy at work and decreases exhaustion. Relaxing and social breaks have a positive impact. It can help reset your mood, promoting positivity, and it reduces stress.

As I mentioned before, taking breaks can help reduce and recover from stress, which can improve someone’s performance. Also, recovering from work-stress can restore energy and mental resources, and decrease the development of fatigue, like  sleep disorders.

It is important to take mini-breaks throughout the working day, because it  helps to support your wellbeing and increase productivity. Additionally, taking breaks can help someone to process and retain information more effectively. When someone is working non-stop, the brain gets tired and at one point it will not fully concentrate. Therefore, the brain will not process and retain information efficiently.

Furthermore, taking regular breaks helps you be more productive. Because you are taking breaks it gives you a series of mini deadlines to work towards, which can encourage you to finish a task more quickly.

As we can see, working non-stop can affect someone negatively in their health and work. This is why it is very important to have mini breaks, so the brain doesn’t get tired and can work effectively.
